Jewish National Fund (JNF)  began in 1901 collecting coins in blue boxes to purchase land and return the Jewish people to their homeland. In over 109 years, JNF has evolved into a global environmental leader and become the central address for partnering with the land and people of Israel.

  • BACKGROUND

    Jewish National Fund is a non-profit organization founded in 1901. It all started with a dream. Theodor Herzl, a Viennese journalist, witnessed virulent anti-Semitism at the Dreyfus trial. He knew it was time to take action, and was determined that before the Fifth Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland came to an end, a national fund would be established to purchase land for a Jewish State in Ottoman-controlled Palestine.     Jewish National Fund is the caretaker of the land of Israel, on behalf of its owners- Jewish people everywhere.


     

  • ORGANIZATION SNAPSHOT

    Jewish National Fund is a non-profit organization founded in 1901. The organization is run by a 50 member volunteer Board of Directors which meets monthly and a paid staff of 150 professionals. Chair of the Board is Ambassador Ronald Lauder and  President Stanley Chesley, Esq. ; Chief Executive Officer is Russell F. RobinsonThis organization is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is eligible to receive contributions deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes. JNF has received the highest ratings from the Better Business Bureau; Charity Navigator and the American Institute of Philanthropy for many years in a row.

    Jewish National Fund is uniquely dedicated 100% for Israel and no other organization consisting of Jews of every affiliation and others is committed to caring for the land and people of Israel as we are.

    Over the past 111 years, JNF has evolved into a global environmental leader by planting 250 million trees, building over 220 reservoirs and dams, developing over 250,000 acres of land, creating more than 1,000 parks, providing the infrastructure for over 1,000 communities, bringing life to the Negev Desert and educating students around the world about Israel and the environment.

    A United Nations NGO, JNF sponsors international conferences on desertification, shares afforestation techniques, and funds research on arid land management. JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.

    JNF is such a great organization! No NPO gives more to Israel than this one. And I love the focus on the environment and ecology and People. Amazing Mitzvah opportunities.
