Impact Boston is a joint project of BBYO ans Brandeis University. At Impact Boston we go beyond volunteering, to explore the issues that underlie some of society’s biggest challenges and go behind the scenes with people at the forefront of social action and real, sustainable change.
BBYO and Brandeis University have teamed up to create this dynamic two-week summer experience focused on social action, community service and advocacy. We are learning skills that will empower us to start a lifetime of work as an agent of change. It’s a Jewish community experience unlike any other. Our group's project is "People First".
People First's mission is to serve people in the community with developmental disabilities and their families, utilizing a person-centered, whole life planning approach. They provide quality, flexible programs and services which maximize independence, foster inclusion and build community connections. People First's programs are based upon self-determination, sound teaching practices and the latest technology.
A private nonprofit organization founded in 1956 by a group of concerned parents, People First is uniquely sensitive to the level of personal support required for individuals to thrive. They have proven experience with the inclusion of all people into the community.
Just to note, we want to respect the confidentiality of the people with disabilities that we're working with. To do this, we are not disclosing the name of the agency, but refering to our project as "People First"
